The Frederick Challenger Little League is an independent league established to provide an opportunity for players with physical or developmental disabilities to participate in Baseball to the maximum of their individual abilities. We work cooperatively with the Little League programs throughout Little League's Maryland District 2 region. The area leagues support us with fields and volunteer support as well as by directing interested players to us.
We have eight teams with players from an area of over 50 miles. Each team plays approximately 18 games during the season which runs from late April to the end of June.
Since 2004 we have sent a team to the Virginia Beach "Challenger Jamboree" annually. At that event they play with Challenger teams from around the world. In 2007 we hosted a tournament sponsored by the Orioles Advocates organization. Annually we play a special game with the Frederick Keys at Grove Stadium. We have also been hosted annually at Camden Yards by the Orioles Advocates to see the Orioles play.
In 2005 our season was completed by playing at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. At that event we established new records for attendance and the first Home Run in a Challenger Exhibition Game, hit by Phillip Shepard.
Our 2006 season was topped off with a trip to the White House where our new Thurmont team sponsored by the Frederick Civitan Club played T-Ball with a team from West Virginia with President and Mrs Bush on hand with Willie Mays as Commisioner.
Last year our players appeared in an edition of "Home Make Over Extreme Edition" on ABC Television.
All teams individually have sponsors from business and service organizations. Donations and Volunteers are always welcome. Your contributions are deductible as the Frederick Challenger Little League is a 501(c)(3) organization
